The Knights of Columbus is a Fraternal Organization
for Catholic men at least 18 years old. It was founded in 1882 to provide
insurance for the widows of its members. Since then, the organization has
grown to over 1.5 million men who donate over $130 million and 6 million
hours to charitable and church causes.
The Knights of Columbus is a Catholic
men's fraternal benefit society that was formed to render financial aid to
members and their families. Mutual aid and assistance are offered to sick,
disabled and needy members and their families. Social and intellectual
fellowship is promoted among members and their families through educational,
charitable, religious, social welfare, war relief and public relief works.
The Giddings Council was created
in 1982, which was the year of the 100th anniversary of the creation of the
Knights of Columbus, thus the name Centennial Council 8085.
Current membership includes 95
members between the two parishes of St. Margaret's and St. Mary's.
Fundraising efforts include
monthly activity of delicious BBQ Chicken / Sausage sales on the 2nd Sunday
of each month and an annual gun raffle.
